Activated Carbon FAQs

Activated Carbon (Charcoal) FAQs

AAA Aircare Systems dba Carbon Services Northwest provides bulk activated carbon (charcoal) for filtration of water, air, and soil. Here are our most frequently asked questions about activated carbon:

What is activated carbon?

Activated carbon is effective at removing gas molecules and odors. Activated carbon is the most common element in military gas masks. The most common method of activating carbon is a two-stage steaming process, which enlarges the carbon’s surface pore size. This in turn produces a more accessible internal surface area allowing for greater odor and gas adsorption.

What is the difference between activated carbon and activated charcoal?

These two terms are interchangeable.

What is BioChar?

BioChar is
an engineered “biocarbon” manufactured with a proprietary process. It is used as a soil amendment material which increases plant productivity and yield, improves soil water-holding capacity, and reduces nutrient leaching thereby reducing fertilizer needs and associated costs. The Biosphere BioChar carbon products are made from sustainable wood products and are processed to be highly porous. They have a large surface area, which works like a sponge to retain water and nutrients so they are available to a wide range of crops.

What is the minimum order that I can purchase from AAA Aircare Systems?

What are the most common uses for activated carbon?
