Activated Carbon (Charcoal) FAQs
AAA Aircare Systems dba Carbon Services Northwest provides bulk activated carbon (charcoal) for filtration of water, air, and soil. Here are our most frequently asked questions about activated carbon:
What is activated carbon?
Activated carbon is effective at removing gas molecules and odors. Activated carbon is the most common element in military gas masks. The most common method of activating carbon is a two-stage steaming process, which enlarges the carbon’s surface pore size. This in turn produces a more accessible internal surface area allowing for greater odor and gas adsorption.
What is the difference between activated carbon and activated charcoal?
These two terms are interchangeable.
What is BioChar?
BioChar is an engineered “biocarbon” manufactured with a proprietary process. It is used as a soil amendment material which increases plant productivity and yield, improves soil water-holding capacity, and reduces nutrient leaching thereby reducing fertilizer needs and associated costs. The Biosphere BioChar carbon products are made from sustainable wood products and are processed to be highly porous. They have a large surface area, which works like a sponge to retain water and nutrients so they are available to a wide range of crops.
What is the minimum order that I can purchase from AAA Aircare Systems?
We are the only provider that sells minimum quantities starting at 20 lbs. There is no maximum order.
Which types of activated carbon are available?
We carry activated carbon made from coal, coconut shell, and hardwoods. These are available in pellet, granular, or powder form.
Which geographical areas do you supply?
Our partner plants are located in multiple areas of the United States. We can ship to anywhere in the United States or Canada.
What are the most common uses for activated carbon?
The most common uses for activated carbon are in filtration of water, air, and soil to remove contaminates.
I'm in the medical or recreational marijuana business (in a permitted area). Can you help me with my unique filtration needs?
Yes. We currently supply carbon for filtration in this industry.
